Finally made it to the final Harry Potter book

Great thanks to my mother-in-law, who purchased it.

Better than I expected.  Had to work hard to make sure I didn't find out how it ened.  I've got to admit that once I got into it it was very hard to put down.  Read the vast majority in one long sitting, but I didn't even notice the time going by.

I'm not going to claim that the book, or any of the HP series for that  matter, are going to go down as literary classics but I have to admit that they were generally all really good reads.  Some were better than others, but the overall quality was high, and Rowling managed to write books that grew with their readers (or forced the reader to grow with the book).  As an adult, I'm not ashamed to say I read and enjoyed them.

Stephen King expressed a similar sentiment in his article for EW.

Anyway, I'd recommend it.  It's been the rare book that has stuck in my head and I keep finding myself thinking about aspects after it in the days after reading it.  For me, that's the mark of well-written book.

Anyway, that's my two cents worth.

    August 10

    Another week done.

It's a Friday night.  Long week.  I'm sitting here in the beanbag, Kara sitting in the other beanbag.  We've both got our laptops open, checking mail, surfing the internet and watching some film on TV3.  The excitement never stops in the Finley household!  The only thing that might make this more pathetic would be if we were instant messaging each other while we sit next to each other.

To be fair, Kara did go out for dinner tonight with friends.  She at least had a bit of a life!

Was working in downtown Auckland today, across the street from Sky City casino.  So I parked there for the day.  If you get your ticket validated, you get 40% off the cost of the parking.  Of course there is only one place to get your parking ticket validate--hidden on the second floor of the slots room, where you have to walk past rows of slots and right next to the blackjack tables.  Nice.

Slot machines and lotteries = taxes on the mathematically impaired.

OK.  I'm done rambling for now.

    Have a great weekend everybody.
